The Perth & District Community Foundation (PDCF) initiated the Vital Signs program to gather information about of our catchment area, identify community priorities, track progress on key indicators of community wellbeing and identify action items, such as health, housing, early childhood development, food, security, environment, arts and culture, transportation and learning.
A community is much more than a collection of parts – it is a complex integrated fabric. When that fabric is strong, we become proud of this place we live in and are a part of. We feel inspired to give of our time and resources to make our community stronger, to show that we care. That, in turn, gives us a sense of belonging, and keeps us here.
This Lanark County Vital Signs 2017 report is the result of an impressive, community-driven process that explores the essence of Lanark County. It shows where the overall fabric is vibrant and strong, as well as where it is worn, faded and the connecting threads weak. These are the areas where we need to focus our attention, in a caring and collective way.
Please – read this report, learn about strengths you didn’t know about, and take pride in the ones you are part of. Most importantly, think about the areas where we need to take action. Let it inspire you to weave some of your time and resources into Lanark County. Together, we can make a better, more diverse, and richer community for all.
“Imagine our country as it could be… a smart and caring nation, where all Canadians can succeed, contribute, and develop their talents to their fullest potential.”
The Right Honourable David Johnston,Governor General of Canada 2010-2017
Former Patron of the Community Foundations of Canada
